St. Michael’s Half Training 3/29-4/5 – Week 2

April 6, 2015

Hello Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. The weather has been pretty spectacular the past week (with some rain here and there) and I hope it continues through this weekend for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler!  Today I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update.

Monday 3/30 – Rest day

Tuesday 3/31 – 2 miles + 60 minutes personal training

Wednesday 4/1 – Rest day

Thursday 4/2 – Foam rolling/stretching

Friday 4/3 – Crystal City Friday 5K #1

Saturday 4/4 – 60 minutes personal training

Sunday 4/5 – Rest day

Total: 5.5 miles

I had the PRR Algonkian Park Trail Run on my calendar for this weekend, but I decided to give myself a little break after Shamrock and the Love Run (and kept my overall mileage low).  The fitness highlight of the week was my Saturday training session. It was a tough workout and I am glad I completed it (a leg day with body weight exercises, TRX, and kettlebells).  One day I will write a post of on one of my training sessions (thanks for the suggestion Kristina).

On Friday I participated in Race #1 (of 4) of the Crystal City Friday 5K series.   I will share my race series goals and mini recap this week.

It was warm and humid – I was able to wear a tank top for the race.

Later that evening we watched Exodus: Goods and Kings, it was pretty good!  It was directed by Ridley Scott (who also produces the Good Wife – current binge show of the moment) and starred Christian Bale.

On Sunday I had lunch with my parents and brother in Maryland.  Later that evening my mom took me to iPic Theaters in North Bethesda aka Rockville.  Fairly newish (I think they opened in November/December) this theater has reserved seating, nice reclining chairs, and a menu/bar you can order from.

We ordered dinner and watched Cinderella – which was better than expected! It was really relaxing and I would definitely come here again (but not all the time – it is a bit pricey).

I slacked a bit on the food pictures this past week. Here is a turkey sandwich I made with a pretzel bun I found at Trader Joes. Sooo good!

How was your weekend?

Have you ever been to an iPic theater or something similar?

    1. I ran a 5k this week too. I’m over here on the west coast so our weather has been a little too hot to run in already, even in April! Good luck on your 10 miler this weekend.

And iPic is the only way to go for movies!

Oh wow! I can’t imagine warm/hot weather all year round! Hope your 5K went well (hoping over to you blog soon). Thanks!

    1. Whoa. That theater looks awesome, Jenny! We have a theater that has recently been remodeled and I’m pretty sure it will now have some of these amenities; other than that, the only time I’ve ever gone to one like this was in Guadalajara, Mexico – crazy, right?!? It was awesome! We had drinks, food and watched a great film (in English, with Spanish subtitles – ha!). I’m so glad you were able to enjoy some relaxing fun this weekend; thanks so much for linking up with the blog and I hope your day is going great!

Seriously! Today was nice, but so humid haha. It will be an interesting April for sure.

Thanks Jess! Leather recliners are super nice – seems like some “regular” theaters are going the leather route when they open/renovate their buildings.

    1. The Hubby and I are doing St. Michael’s Running Festival weekend too! We’re just doing the 10K. I was really hoping to do the Cherry Blossom run this year, but it didn’t make it on to our schedule. It’s such a beautiful landscape. Good luck and have a great time!

Fun, perhaps I will see you in St. Michael. I am glad they changed the course this year (‘ve never run it before), I heard it would be more scenic. I am excited that the Cherry Blossoms will actually be on the trees during the run.

      1. Run Jenny Run

You should do it! I will be running this Friday and the last Friday (I’ll be out of town for the third).

    1. We have a theater like that but I haven’t been yet. I love pretzel buns. I wonder where else you can get them. We don’t have a Trader Joes. 🙁

Hope you get to try it one day. What no TJs?! Hmmm do you have a Wegmans? I saw a few recipes for them online, but I am not a good bread maker 🙂

    1. I want to do the Crystal City 5k (well at least one of them) this year. And pretzel buns are the best things in the world.

      1. Run Jenny Run

I’ve been obsessed with pretzel buns since Philly 🙂 You should definitely do one of the 5Ks, they still take registration.

    1. Thanks for the small glimpse into your personal training sesh! I really hope you do a post about it in the future. How long have you been seeing a personal trainer?

I agree that Cinderella was better than expected. I thought the guy who played the Prince was quite cute 🙂

I will definitely write a post about it in the future – will ask my trainer today if she is okay with it (as in pictures and such). I’ve seen trainers for about 3 years now. The first year was a bit moot (I’ll only went 1x a week and wasn’t do exercises when I wasn’t seeing him). It was last year (and when I switched to a project in DC) where I was able to see a trainer 2x week where I saw results (stronger, weight loss). Yes the Prince was quite cute.

    1. great weekend! I am impressed with how much you race, although I will just be getting into race season with my first tri this weekend and a heavy schedule from April – June. Awesome movie theater…I so rarely get out. My hubby and I usually lounge at home with whatever we caught on the DVR!

Thanks Kelli! My racing calendar will lighten up over the summer and winter (the fall I’ll use a couple halves as training runs for the marathon). Good luck with your tri this weekend. I am usually a DVR/tv/Netflix girl my self 🙂

I hope so too (and that the rain holds off for a bit).

    1. I’d love to hear more about your Personal Training sessions – I tried TRX as part of another workout once and thought it was so cool! I haven’t had the chance to do it again tough.

I’ve never heard of the iPic theaters. Seems cool! I live just down the street from Arlington Drafthouse, which sounds not quite as fancy, but also not quite as expensive and I love catching movies/a bite to eat there!

Hope to get a post in the new two weeks or so 🙂 TRX is tough! Good to know about Arlington Drafthouse – I’ll have to check it out. I’ve been to the AMC in Courthouse and that was pretty nice (the leather recliner chairs) for a “normal” theater.

Hopefully I’ll get a post up in the next few weeks. Wow a membership! I had no idea they had those.
